Thom Borden Biography- January 14th Workshop
Thom Borden is a former Chicago music teacher. He completed his Orff Master Level under Jos Wuytak and has studied music and movement in Europe. Continued studies include Kodály training at Colorado State University and Silver Lake College with Sr. Lorna Zemke. As a clinician and National Music Consultant for Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and past-member of the National Association of Storytellers, Thom’s sessions incorporate a performance perspective. Affiliations have included AOSA, ECMMA, MENC, OAKE, the Association Orff France and the Alliance Française Chicago. Thom was a clinician at the 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2010 AOSA Conferences, 2008 and 2010 National Early Childhood Music and Movement Conferences, 2008 and 2009 OAKE Conferences, and the 2008 Australian Orff Conference in Melbourne. Thom is the past-president of the Chicago Orff Chapter and presents annually at many state educators’ meetings. He has published selected Orff arrangements in the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill series, Spotlight on Music.
Rob Amchin Biography- March 10th Workshop Dr. Robert Amchin is Distinguished Teaching Professor of music education and the head of the music education/therapy division at the University of Louisville. He teaches undergraduate and graduate classes to music and non-music majors, and supervises graduate student projects and student teachers. Rob Amchin has studied at the Orff Institute, New England Conservatory, Memphis State, Hofstra University, Hamline College, and the University of Michigan. He was an elementary music specialist in Spring, Texas. He still teaches children as an artist-in-residence, pre-school music volunteer, and dance/music guest presenter. Rob teaches at summer Orff teacher-training courses throughout the country. He presents sessions at local, state, and national music education events including numerous AOSA national conferences. He has also been an invited teacher of Orff pedagogy in China, Russia, Salzburg, Israel, Poland, and Canada.
G.R.A.O.S.A. Workshops at Leary Elementary School Saturday workshops are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Breakfast is from 8:30-9:00 am. Be sure to arrive by 9:00 am to receive in-service credit. Bring a bag lunch or bring money for pizza. Location for upcoming workshops will be held at Leary Elementary School in the Rush-Henrietta School District. *Directions to Leary: Leary is easily accessed from Interstate 390 North or South. Just take 390 South and get off on East Henrietta Road Exit. Just keep heading south (southeast) on East Henrietta Road toward the town of Rush. Look for Leary Elementary on the right, just past Jeffords Road. *Also, please check mapquest.com for more information. Alternate Directions: From 390, take exit 11. Exit onto Rt. 251 and go east. Cross Rt. 15 and continue on Rt. 251 to the intersection of 251 and East Henrietta Road (Route 15A). Turn left on 15A. Leary is on the left, just past Jeffords Rd. on the right. Those coming from the Thruway should take exit 46. Head east on Lehigh High Station Road to the intersection of East Henrietta Road (Route 15A). Turn right on East Henrietta Road. WNYOSA INVITES GRAOSA MEMBERS TO THEIR WORKSHOPS The Western NY Orff Schulwerk Association has extended an invitation to members of our chapter to attend their workshops for a fee of $10.00 per workshop or $20.00 for all of their workshops. Orff Chapter GUEST PASS All members of GRAOSA have a pass for one free guest per year. Bring a friend and share in the fun! In-service Credit for Local Workshops You can receive in-service credit from your school for attending the GRAOSA workshops. · In-service credit will be awarded in 5 hour increments to those attending a GRAOSA workshop · In order to receive this credit, workshop attendees must arrive at the workshop no later than 9:00 a.m., and leave no earlier than 2:00 p.m. It is suggested that participants arrive by 8:30 a.m. to allow time for sign-in and refreshments. · Workshop attendees must sign in by 9:00 a.m., and must indicate on the sign-in sheet that they are seeking in-service credit for the day · Workshop attendees must pick up their own signed in-service form at the completion of the workshop Are you a new teacher looking to complete 175 hours of workshops? Our workshops can help you to complete that goal. Be sure to attend during the required hours (see above) and take the signed in-service form with you at the end of the workshop. The Orff and Kodaly levels classes can also be used toward meeting this requirement and could give you up to 80 hours in one summer for a two week class.
